Autumn Conference 2022
Family Of Yeshua Messiah - Autumn Quarterly Conference 2022, September 24
Welcome:
Joseph: Well, we have a very nice conference planned for today. The Lord has been active in helping us to understand what to speak about, and we are excited to get the message across. Well, is everyone excited to hear what the messages will be?
Well everyone, I think we should get started. I would like to welcome everybody out to the Autumn Conference. We are pretty excited about everything, because we do have some words that are inspired that will help us, and we are all looking forward to these things. So these blessings that will be offered today are quite tremendous, I think. So let us get started. We would like a volunteer for an opening prayer.
Opening Prayer: Ted
Dear Heavenly Father, we are very thankful that we can all be gathered here today, and we would like to ask that Thee and Thy angels would attend us, and Thy spirit would be upon us and guide all of our words, and everything that Thou would have us learn today. We are thankful for the internet and all the means of communication that we have with friends around the world, and ask for blessings to be upon all of us. In the name of Yeshua Messiah, Amen.
Gathering Zion:
Joseph: Today, I think I would like to address everyone first; and I wrote out a few scriptures here, like some quotes and things so that I do not lose my place too much; but I would like to start today. You know, we have done some good conferences, and have established the central doctrine, and exactly what it is that is going on. And, I would like to now show that we need to do more than just believe in a correct doctrine; we need to actually change our lives in accordance with that doctrine. So, if people are willing, I would like to show,… one of the things that we need to do is to live the doctrine of Christ.
Now, the doctrine of Christ, I know there are a lot of arguments about it, and a lot of people do seem to be very stuck on their own particular views of it, but if we are to actually live it, and not just believe in it, then we have to do something about this..
For example, we all hear the scripture that those who repent and believe in Me and are baptized shall have eternal life, you know, they shall be saved, but what does this mean though? Just previous to this scripture, the Lord taught us His doctrine. He just told us that we were not to be arguing and contending, and we had actually to be one with each other and with the Lord. Now, we are supposed to be doing this, and then He says: Repent. Repent from what? Repent from not being one; repent from the arguing; from the contention; repent from the anger; repent from the hostilities towards each other; we are to actually repent. And we are to believe this doctrine so much that we actually change our life. And in fact, we are to be baptized as a new beginning to this new life.
So just believing something, and being baptized, is not going to get us anywhere. We must actually change our life in accordance with this new doctrine that the Lord has said is the doctrine of Christ. So if we are baptized, and baptized in vain, or just baptized so we can say we believe and we are starting a new life, this is not acceptable. What we need to do is be baptized as a sign that we are changing. And we do, from that moment on, live this new doctrine. This is very important.
If you really want to actually get to the Saviour, then we have to actually do what the Saviour says. If we do not do it, we only just believe it in our minds or something, then we will not gain the results of it. If you are thirsty and you believe a glass of water will quench your thirst, and yet you pour a glass of water as a symbol that you believe, but you never drink it, it is not going to quench your thirst. And those who get baptized, they believe the doctrine, they get baptized, and then they actually live this doctrine of Christ of no contention, no disputations, no anger, no any of these things, but they actually be one with each other and with Heavenly Father, and with the Son, with the Holy Ghost, then these people will gain the results, and they will have eternal life. They will, in fact, inherit the Kingdom of God. So we need to be very careful about this.
Now, how can you actually live this doctrine? Do you run away, hide in a cave so you do not have to put up with anybody? Do you run down to your local mission and help take care of people? You do not like going to your local mission to take care of people because there is a bunch of Looney Tunes there that are always trying to say something to you, or criticize you, or something like that? Well, how are you ever going to overcome the contention, if you never go and help anyway?
All throughout the scripture, the Lord has told us, and made a promise to us that He would gather in His people. And when He gathers in His people, those people who will actually live it, when you gather in those people, then He will come and be with them. Now this promise is extended over, and over, and over again, throughout all the scriptures, and we need to actually understand this. If we do not gather together, work together, live in a way that is one, and not get angry and not complain, and not contend, but actually be one with each other, can we lay down our pride and our vanity long enough, or do we have to tell somebody that we are right? Do we have to tell somebody what we are going to do? Do we have to tell somebody something that contradicts what they said, or can we be humble? Can we actually live the gospel? Can we actually live the doctrine of Christ?
So, if we do not gather together, then how are we going to work together? If we do not gather together, how are we going to become one? How are we going to overcome the contentions? How are we going to actually create this heaven?
Heaven is created from within, it is not created from without. Heaven has nothing to do with the environment around you. Heaven has everything to do with the environment within you; and then you need to bring that environment out. So when we do this, and we get a couple people together that are doing this, and we have that oneness, then the Lord will be there in the midst of them. He is not there just because they are gathered together, He is there because they are actually living His doctrine and being one, one with Him, one with the Father, one with the Holy Ghost, one with each other. There is no contention, no arguments, no anything with each other. So, they are actually living the doctrine of Christ, and then Christ will show up. Now this has always been the case, and we should look forward to this day.
So this gives us a new idea, it is not just: When the Lord comes, then we will be gathered. It is when we live His doctrine, when we gather and become one, no arguments, no anything, no contentions, no disputations, no complaining, no murmuring, nothing; when we live the gospel, then the Saviour will come. So we really need to pay attention. It is His people who actually live His doctrine; those people who are creating peace; those people who are peacemakers are His children.
So, this is kind of an interesting topic and I know a lot of people are very afraid of this topic, because they are comfortable where they are. They certainly are not going to give up the world to gather, to follow the gospel, of course not. So let us take a little look.
Even in the Book of Mormon here; I have a couple of little quotes. In the Book of Mormon, Lehi, - these guys, were a remnant of the seed of Jacob, so they were pushed out of their homeland, led out of their homeland, came to a new land, - but Lehi here would like to explain the prophecy, and gives his own prophecy about this. He speaks of the gathering of the House of Israel.
He says,
"That they should be compared like unto an olive tree, whose branches should be broken off, and should be scattered upon all the face of the earth. Wherefore, he said, it must needs be that we should be led with one accord, into the land of promise, unto the fulfilling of the word of the Lord: That we should be scattered upon all the face of the earth. And after that the House of Israel should be scattered, they should be gathered together again; or, in fine, that after the Gentiles had received the fulness of the gospel, the natural branches of the olive tree, or the remnants of the House of Israel, should be grafted in, or come to the knowledge of the true Messiah, their Lord and their Redeemer." (1830 Book of Mormon, pp 22-23)
So how is it that they are going to come to this knowledge; and what is this knowledge; and is it just the knowledge that we have to do; we just have to have the knowledge, and then we are saved? You know, it does not say that. It says that the House of Israel will be gathered from the isles of the sea, and the four quarters of the Earth. And Lehi says,
"... when that day cometh, saith the prophet, that they no more turn aside their hearts against the Holy One of Israel, then will He remember the covenants which He made to their fathers, yea, then will He remember the isles of the sea; yea, and all the people which are of the House of Israel, will I gather in, saith the Lord, according to the words of the prophet Zenos, from the four quarters of the earth; yea, and all the earth shall see the salvation of the Lord, saith the prophet; every nation, kindred, tongue, and people, shall be blessed." (51-52)
This is some pretty good stuff, but now we have to figure out what is it that makes us blessed when we gather?
So let us see, I have a whole bunch more scriptures here written to quote from just in case, but I think for right now, I would like to jump to this scripture.
"For it appears that the House of Israel, sooner or later, will be scattered upon all the face of the earth, and also among all nations, and before there are many which are already lost from the knowledge of they which are at Jerusalem. Yea, the more part of all the tribes have been led away; and they are scattered to and fro upon the isles of the sea; and whither they are, none of us knoweth, save that we know that they have been led away. And since that they have been led away, these things have been prophesied concerning them, and also concerning all they which shall hereafter be scattered and be confounded, because of the Holy One of Israel; for against Him will they harden their hearts; ... " (56)
So we already learn of why they are scattered. If you have a hard heart, you are not going to gather, you are going to leave, right? So they are scattered. So many people have chosen to leave all on their own. They refused to become one, they have refused to take care of each other, they refused to help each other, and thereby, their countries become very selfish and self-centered, and then they end up with wars and contentions and everything. And we are right back against the doctrine of Christ; in fact, the Lord says that those who contend with each other are the children of the devil.
So that is a pretty harsh statement, because we have to think, apply it to ourselves, if we contend, or when we contend, we are not the children of God; no excuses, we are contending. And therefore, we are the children of the devil while we are contending. We do need to definitely repent and stop that contention; that contention is really horrible.
"Nevertheless, after that they have been nursed by the Gentiles, and the Lord hath lifted up His hand upon the Gentiles and set them up for a standard, and their children shall be carried in their arms, and their daughters shall be carried upon their shoulders, behold, these things of which are spoken, are temporal; for thus is the covenants of the Lord with our fathers; and it meaneth us in the days to come." (57)
So, Lehi is being very particular here about who is being addressed, so it means:
"us in the days to come, and also all our brethren which are of the House of Israel."
So, both groups of people.
"And it meaneth that the time cometh that after all the House of Israel have been scattered and confounded, that the Lord God will raise up a mighty nation among the Gentiles, yea, even upon the face of this land; and by them shall our seed be scattered. And after that our seed is scattered, the Lord God will proceed to do a marvellous work among the Gentiles, which shall be of great worth unto our seed; wherefore, it is likened unto the being nursed by the Gentiles, and being carried in their arms and upon their shoulders."
So this work that is going to be done, or that has been done, of bringing forth the gospel, is of great worth to Lehi's descendants; and that is what it means, if they follow it. So, that is what it means to be nursed by the Gentiles and carried by the Gentiles.
So, we have to remember that it all comes back to us living it. And, we can give as many excuses and arguments and reasons as we want, but it never will change anything. If a person wants to go on a diet, and has the program written in front of them or something, and they just give excuses of why they are not living it; they can say: Oh, I believe in the diet, I was even baptized, but I am not going to live it. It gets foolish, it is so silly, and they think they are going to have the results. They really believe that, you know, when Mickey Mouse went and stole the wizard's hat and wand, that Heavenly Father, somehow, has access to that. And is just going to wear the hat, and wave His wand and we are just going to magically become good. We are told that the same spirit we have here is the spirit that we have there. In other words, if we are brats here, we are not going to change, we are still going to be brats there. And even if we change for a short time, eventually we will slide back into our comfort zone. So, it is most imperative that we actually change, and actually live the gospel.
"And after that our seed is scattered, the Lord God will proceed to do a marvellous work among the Gentiles, which shall be of great worth unto our seed; wherefore, it is likened unto the being nourished by the Gentiles, and being carried in their arms, and upon their shoulders. And it shall also be of worth unto the Gentiles, and not only unto the Gentiles, but unto all the House of Israel..."So, he is talking about three groups right now.
"... unto the making known of the covenants of the Father of Heaven unto Abraham, saying: In thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed." (57)
So all the kindreds of the Earth cannot be blessed unless ... unless what? Unless they actually gather, and actually live the gospel. If they do not live this gospel, then the kindreds of the Earth will not be blessed. But as they do live the gospel, then the Holy Ghost can come upon them and that will bless everybody.
"And I would, my brethren, that you should know that all the kindreds of the earth cannot be blessed, unless He shall make bare His arm in the eyes of the nations."
There you go; so it will be a physical gathering.
"... he will bring them again out of captivity, and they shall be gathered together in the lands of their first inheritance; and they shall be brought out of obscurity, and out of darkness; and they shall know that the Lord is their Saviour, and their Redeemer, the Mighty One of Israel." (57)
So it is clear that not only are we going to see a physical gathering, but also a spiritual gathering, in the which those who gather will be brought out of obscurity and out of darkness by having a personal knowledge of the Saviour, of the Redeemer. But, how are they to have that personal knowledge? Is it just going to happen? Or will it be according to what was spoken of earlier that we actually have to live it in order for it to happen?
"And because of the righteousness of His people,"
Well, I guess that just explains it; it is because of the righteousness of His people.
"Satan hath no power; wherefore he cannot be loosed for the space of many years: For he hath no power over the hearts of the people, for they dwell in righteousness, and the Holy One of Israel reigneth." (59)
So it is very strictly up to us. Are we going to follow the Lord; are we going to gather; are we going to actually live the doctrine of Christ; this doctrine of one? Are we going to do it, or are we going to find some reason or excuse or something?
This is pretty hard doctrine, I suppose, for people who are just learning, but I also believe that as we contemplate these things, and pray about these things, that the time will come that we will be ready to live this depth of the doctrine. So, we should prepare for it. We should learn now not to murmur, not to complain, not to contend, or make excuses, or lies or gossip. We should learn very hard to be one with each other, to help each other, to live for each other. The more we do this, the more prepared we will be, and when we finally change our hearts enough, then we will want to gather; we will want to keep the commandments of the Lord. So, if we can change our hearts enough, by living the doctrine of Christ, soon we will be prepared that we can go forward and live all the commandments.
The time and place of the gathering does not happen magically, it is really dependent upon the people; when they are ready, and they are going to do it.
"But behold, all nations, kindreds, tongues, and people shall dwell safely in the Holy One of Israel,"
Sounds like a good promise. But it continues. It says:
"...if it so be that they will repent." (59)
Repent of what? We definitely have to kick aside all this arguing, and fighting, contention; we have to get that out of us, so that our desires are for peace, and are for kindness.
So there is both a physical aspect to the gathering and a spiritual aspect to the gathering; and both of these aspects, of course, are intertwined, they cannot really have one without the other. So, when people accept the truth about the Saviour, then they will gather, and when the people gather and they live the doctrine of Christ, they will come to know the Saviour.
So we have to remember in any recipe, there is more than one ingredient. So just gathering, and still being difficult wherever you go, will not do it. If you look at throughout history, many of the people who have gathered together, to try a united order, a lot of times they did not last very long, because there came to be a contention somewhere, and then of course, the order divided, and that is very sad.
It really is up to us, we have to be the ones willing to do it, and whenever you gather, I need to warn everybody, that there is always somebody, and more than somebody, many somebodies, who will complain about everything. There is always somebody who will not contribute, who will make excuses, who will do whatever it is that they want to do. There is always somebody who will try to manipulate, and who will put on a smile and pretend, and then have a few tears coming down their eyes, so that they can get people on their side. There is always somebody trying to make division. Division is not one, oneness is no division.
So if you are going to gather, you need to be prepared to understand that there is always somebody who is making an excuse, or making a critique of something; even if they call it a positive critique, there is always somebody doing it. You have to just care about, like worry about, how you behave. And you have to create that heaven within. Each individual must be able to go forth in humility. And, even when there is somebody who is causing a problem, can you be humble? Can you do it?
I have found that if you just be humble, and let them rage on their way, they will eventually leave; and the other people who are left behind, will be quite happy. They are always sad when someone has left, and we always pray for them. But, they always have some kind of an excuse or some kind of reasons. You can tell they are not one, because they run around trying to divide everything even after they are gone: contact everybody; say bad things; all that kind of stuff. This is not one. This is contention. This is disputation. This is children of the devil.
In order to be one, we have to do as the Saviour does and follow what Heavenly Father has proclaimed. We have to follow the Doctrine of Christ. And, if we follow the doctrine of Christ, and actually live it, actually be one, not only just with God; you cannot be so selfish that you think it is just me and you God, right? That is nonsense. You have to be one with Heavenly Father and with His children; otherwise, He would not say if you did it unto one of the least of these, you have also done it unto Me. You know, we have to be one. And this is a challenging aspect.
"Surely He hath blessed the House of Jacob, and hath been merciful unto the seed of Joseph. And inasmuch as the children of Lehi hath kept His commandments, He hath blessed them and prospered them according to His word; yea, and surely shall He again bring a remnant of the seed of Joseph,"
So this is the seed of Joseph now.
"to the knowledge of the Lord their God." (464)
What knowledge did the Saviour say was His doctrine? That we are to be baptized and live to become one; is that not correct?
"Surely shall He again bring a remnant of the seed of Joseph to the knowledge of the Lord their God; and as surely as the Lord liveth will He gather in from the four quarters of the earth, all the remnant of the seed of Jacob, which are scattered abroad upon all the face of the earth; and as He hath covenanted with all the House of Jacob, even so shall the covenant wherewith He hath covenanted with the House of Jacob, be fulfilled in His own due time, unto the restoring all the House of Jacob unto the knowledge of the covenant that He hath covenanted with them;"
So, this is going to take some time.
"and then shall they know their Redeemer,"
Notice, they have to actually live it first, before they will know their Redeemer,
"which is Jesus Christ, the Son of God; and then shall they be gathered in from the four quarters of the earth unto their own lands from whence they have been dispersed; yea, as the Lord liveth, so shall it be. Amen." (464-465)
Notice how, after they get to know the Redeemer, they are gathered in? But, they were already gathered in, before they got to know the Redeemer. So, is this a challenge for people to understand, or can you comprehend that you have to actually live this first; gather together wherever you are first? And, when you finally come to that knowledge, you are to gather together where the Lord sends. But, they will gather to the ancient homelands.
This is, I know, kind of challenging, but let us not make any excuses here, and just sort of take it at face value. So, the remnant of Joseph will be restored to the knowledge of the Lord. This is the knowledge they get restored to. They will gather in the remnant of Jacob from the four quarters of the earth, and restore all of the House of Jacob unto the knowledge of the covenant; then shall they know their Redeemer. Then shall they be gathered in from the four quarters of earth unto their own lands from which they have been dispersed.
So, this is hard, let me try and explain it just a little bit here. The remnant of the seed of Jacob are what we refer to as Lehi's descendants, the descendants of the Nephites, and those who have been scattered, the descendants of the Lamanites. All of these people, these are the remnant of the seed of Jacob. And they will be gathered and get to know the Lord; they will return to the knowledge of the Lord, and all that stuff. And then, the House of Jacob will all be returned, and they will get to know the Lord. So, this is more than just the seed of the descendants of Lehi. And then, they will, as they repent and live it, they will be gathered together. So, we have to kind of understand this is not all the same group of people that the Lord is talking about. So, it is absolutely imperative with the tremendous blessings attached, that the people of the Lord gather together both temporally and spiritually. Temporally, in order to gain those promised blessings of knowing the Lord; because remember the Lord told the Nephites that after the words of Isaiah are fulfilled, then the covenant of the Father to the House of Israel, will be fulfilled.
"And then shall the remnants which shall be scattered abroad upon the face of the earth, be gathered in from the east, and from the west, and from the south, and from the North; and they shall be brought to the knowledge of the Lord their God, who hath redeemed them." (496)
This is a very important aspect to understand. We need to understand that these people who will obey the word of the Lord, who will gather in, and who will actually live the doctrine of Christ, they will see the Saviour.
There is a reason why so many different churches, and groups, and everything else, proclaim their doctrines and their beliefs, and they always seem to leave out something, and they never get the result. They get little results from the little bit they do, but they do not get the full result, because they are leaving out the full recipe. So, we need to be wise enough to live that full recipe.
"And I will gather My people together, as a man gathereth his sheaves into the floor: For I will make My people with whom the Father hath covenanted. ... And it shall come to pass that I will establish My people, O House of Israel. And behold, this people will I establish in this land, unto the fulfilling of the covenant which I made with your Father Jacob; and it shall be a New Jerusalem. And the Powers of Heaven shall be in the midst of this people; yea, even I will be in the midst of you." (497)
So, there should be no doubt, there really should be no doubt that the Lord is telling the truth.
"Behold, I am He of whom Moses spake, saying: A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me: Him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever He shall say unto you. And it shall come to pass that every soul which will not hear that prophet, shall be cut off from among the people. Verily, I say unto you, yea; and all the prophets from Samuel, and those that follow after, as many have spoken, have testified of Me." (497)
So the Saviour is proclaiming that He, Himself, is this great prophet, and that we have to listen to Him. And His words are pretty clear before us; we have them there in 3rd Nephi, chapter 5; it is pretty easy to see. Well, it goes a few chapters, but He starts off with His doctrine.
I am going to jump the next quote here because I have been talking a long time.
But after this great gathering in Zion, the Lord will pour out the Holy Ghost upon the Gentiles, and offer them the fullness of His gospel. And, if the Gentiles reject the fullness of His gospel, then the Lord will fulfill the covenant to the descendants of the Nephites, by gathering them together again, and once again establishing Zion among them, where He will dwell with them, just as He did with the Nephites after His resurrection. We all remember this. He came, He taught them His doctrine, He healed their sick and everything else. They went throughout the earth and gathered everybody and baptized everybody and created His church there; and then they had this community of Zion grow. And for three generations, and even a lot of the fourth generation, the Lord dwelt with His people. They actually created Zion. They were one; one heart, one mind, with not only God, with each other. No contentions, no disputations, they were one. And they, for that many generations, kept it going, until there started to be an elevation, people wanted to be better than someone else. Once they wanted to be better than someone else, they opened their mouth and that was the end.
“If the [Gentiles] will not harden their hearts, that they may repent and come unto [Him], and be baptized in [His] name, and know of the true points of [His] doctrine, then they may be numbered among [the descendants of Nephites],” who have gathered together in the name of the Lord and will also be called by the Lord, His people, and thereby partake of the promised blessings of the Covenant. ( See 3rd Nephi IX:9)
Again, do we really believe that just knowing about the true points of the doctrine is going to fulfill this? Or are we wise enough to understand that knowledge only comes from experience? And that means we have to actually live this, in order for these blessings to come.
So, we live in a day when there is a great resistance to gathering, because people do not want to leave their homes and all the nonsense that they have built, and they do not want to move together, and they all are vain and proud and think everybody should move to where I am. Well, that is not going to happen, and you can argue it all you want, but it is not going to change anything, and you still will not get the results. And for eternity you can comfort yourself by saying: At least I would not move. Maybe that pride will help you, keep you warm while you are in outer darkness; I do not know, but it is just silly. So, the covenant of this great gathering will happen, just as it happened among the Nephites. The gathering will happen both for the House of Israel, and it will happen again for the remnant of the House of Jacob, for the remnant of the House of Jacob are still of the House of Israel. The Lord will gather in His people here upon this continent. His people are those who actually repent and keep His commandments, including the commandment to gather. His people will be gathered together that they may live the true points of His doctrine, live with Him having all the promised blessings of the covenant. Even to the Gentiles, the Lord promises that if they will repent and live His doctrine, that they can be numbered with His people. So, He is even giving the Gentiles a chance.
I know there is a proud theme today, that the Gentiles think they are the ones to save the remnant of the House of Jacob, but the scriptures do not say that. The scriptures say that:
"if they will repent and hearken unto My words, and harden not their hearts." (501)
Again, what words? To live His doctrine; they will not harden their hearts; they are going to actually do what the Lord asked them to do.
The Gentiles are people who are of the world; their desire is for the world. They have a divided devotion. They are divided, they want to serve both God and Mammon, and these are Gentiles. They are not of Israel, they are not of the remnant of the seed of Jacob, they are Gentiles. And so, they need to repent, and put God first. And, if they put God first, they can come into the covenant, and be numbered with the remnant of Jacob,
"unto whom I have given this land for their inheritance and they shall assist My people." (501)
The Gentiles will actually assist. They are going to have to humble themselves a lot."... and they shall assist My people, the remnant of Jacob, and also, as many of the House of Israel as shall come, that they may build a city, which shall be called the new Jerusalem; and then shall they assist My people that they may be gathered in, which are scattered upon all the face of the land, in unto the New Jerusalem. And then shall the Power of Heaven come down among them; and I also will be in the midst:" (501)
"And all thy children shall be taught of the Lord; and great shall be the peace of thy children. ... This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is of Me, ... And whosoever will hearken unto My words, and repenteth, and is baptized, the same shall be saved." (502).
So, whoever will listen to these words of our Saviour; whoever will repent, and be baptized, may be gathered together with His people. Remembering obviously, baptism does not do anything unless we actually live the Doctrine of Christ. We have to be one, no contentions, no disputations, only one. Be peacemakers. So, I would like to leave these thoughts with you in the name of the Lord, Yeshua, obviously. And I do so. Amen. [52:27]
Unity:
John: I would like to talk a little bit about unity. Unity is one of the central tenants of heaven, for the Saviour said,
"Verily I say unto you, that the Father and the Son and the Holy Ghost are one."
It is from 3rd Nephi, chapter 5. This is one of the first teachings of the Saviour to the people when He appeared after His resurrection and in fact, the Lord expresses this sentiment at least 12 times and refers to it numerous other times before moving on to a different subject, and it is imperative that the Lord's people and everyone who would call themselves the Lord's people, be united in following this doctrine of Christ.
This is also one of the main principles taught by the prophet Joseph Smith, who said,
"It is likewise very satisfactory to my mind that there has been such a good understanding between you, and that the Saints have so cheerfully harkened to counsel and vied with each other in this labour of love; and in the promotion of truth and righteousness; this is as it should be in the church of Jesus Christ. Unity is strength. How pleasing it is for brethren to dwell together in Unity. Let the saints of the most high ever cultivate this principle, and the most glorious blessings must result, not only to them individually, but to the whole church. The order of the Kingdom will be maintained, its officers respected, and its requirements readily and cheerfully obeyed."
From Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith.
It says, "most glorious blessing must result" from being united, and of course, if it only affected one person, it wouldn't really be united. Anyone who thinks that they are getting blessings from being united, but they're the only ones, is deluding themselves. There is no way to be the only person united.
Joseph Smith also said,
"I see no faults in the church, and therefore, let me be resurrected with the Saints, whether I ascend to heaven or descend to hell or go to any other place, and if we go to hell, we will turn the devils out the doors and make a heaven of it. Where this people are, there is good society. What do we care where we are? If the society be good, I don't care what a man's character is if he is my friend, a true friend, I will be a friend to him and preach the gospel of salvation to him and give him good counsel, helping him out of his difficulties."
This is a very good example of how you be united. No matter who you are trying to unite with, you won't always see eye to eye on everything, you will not always agree with everything they say, but you don't have to, you need to actually be a true friend to them and continue to, you know, preach the gospel of salvation to him, and give him good counsel, helping him out of his difficulties. Not everyone's going to be perfect like you just yet, it takes a little bit of time for them to get up to your level, so you've got to give them a chance, but that doesn't mean you can't unite with them before that.
It also said that they would turn the devils outdoors and how would they do this? By having absolutely no contention, by the complete oneness with each other and with God, and that is where heaven is created. Anytime there is contention or there is disputation among people, then, believe it or not, even if you're right, you will lose the power of God, you cannot have any disputation or contention among you.
"Friendship is one of the grand fundamental principles of mormonism. It is designed to revolutionize and civilize the world and cause wars and contention to cease and men to become friends and brothers, even the wolf and the lamb shall dwell together, the leopard shall lie down with the kid, the calf, the young lion and the fatling, and the little child shall lead them, and the bear and the cow shall lie down together, and the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp and the weaned child shall play on the cockatrices den, and they shall not hurt or destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the Lord of Hosts."
That was also from the Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith.
There is a Latin maxim that says,
"In necessariis unitas, in non necessariis libertus, in omnibus charitas."
Which I'm pretty sure that's how it's pronounced, but translated, it means, in essentials, unity, in nonessentials, liberty, and in all things, charity.
Joseph Smith also said,
"It is likewise very satisfactory to my mind that there has been such a good understanding between you, and that the Saints have so cheerfully harkened to counsel and vied with each other in their labors of love; and in the promotion of truth and righteousness; this is as it should be in the church of Jesus Christ. Unity is strength. How pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in Unity. Let the saints of the most high, ever cultivate this principle, and the most glorious blessings must result, not only to them individually. but to the whole church, the order of the Kingdom will be maintained, its officers respected, and its requirements readily and cheerfully obeyed."
It is this very principle of unity that creates Zion, where for 3 generations and much of the fourth generation, were able to live in the presence of the Saviour. It is this same principle that is called righteousness. Father Lehi stated,
"The words which he shall speak unto you shall be the law which ye shall do,"
and again,
"the Son of Righteousness shall appear unto them; and he shall heal them, and they shall have peace with him, until three generations shall have passed, and many of the fourth generation shall have passed away in righteousness."
They were able to achieve this righteousness by being one with the Saviour and with each other. To establish Zion once again, to fulfill the covenant, the people must repent, live this law of unity, of no contention, of oneness, this is the covenant of baptism, to live the doctrine of Christ, and all those who are baptised in vain, meaning that they do not live this doctrine after that they have been baptised, they will not be numbered with the covenant people of the Lord.
Thank you. Amen.
Doing:
Chris: First thing I have is just after 3rd Nephi 5, I'm in 3rd Nephi 6 here, paragraph 4, and it reads,
"Enter ye in at the straight gate; for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat; because, straight is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits: Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. -- A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore, by their fruits ye shall know them."
And so right away in this scripture here, we're commanded to enter into the straight gate, which is narrow and leadeth unto life, and we see from this that there's another gate that's really wide and easy to go down, in other words, lead us the opposite of that life, to destruction, and can see here also what will take you down that gate, at least we get a hint, if you're a false prophet, or if you are creating evil fruit.
What I notice when I was reading this, preparing this, right in the middle is the word "do," and it comes right after, "Ye shall know them by their fruits," and it says, "Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles," but I really like that it says "do" because this is what's happening here, it's what they're doing, and what are we doing? And the fact that that's right in the center of that paragraph. So, if we are doing what a good tree does, then we bring good fruit, and that's what we'd like to do.
Then we go to the next paragraph, which is paragraph 5, that says,
"Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven."
There's that do again, just this time it says doeth.
"Many will say to me in that day: Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity."
And this scripture, it really has stuck out to me over the years, for a lot of reasons. At first, I would think when I came to the part, when He says, "I never knew you: depart from me," that really, I didn't want that to be me, you know, and it really stuck out to me initially. Then I started looking at it further and I noticed that to get to the kingdom of heaven, it actually says that we're doing something, we're doing the will of "My Father," He says, "which is in heaven." That's how you're going to get into the gate, is in doing the will. And reflecting back on paragraph 4 and going back to where he says, "I never knew you," helps us understand that knowing something is what we're doing, also, we know, because we do it, we get experience in doing it, over and over again, and that's what we know, and our Lord and Saviour, if he's saying I never knew you, then He is not doing with we're doing, and I certainly don't want that to be us, but that tells us what the evil tree which bringeth forth evil fruit is, because it's not that which is good, it's not that good tree that's bringing good fruit.
The focus here is doing the will of the Father and that's what's going to bring us to be one and anyway, I'm going to read the next one, paragraph 6,
"Therefore, whoso heareth these sayings of mine and doeth them,"
there's that word again, do, doeth, so
"heareth these sayings of mine and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house: and it fell not, for it was founded upon a rock. And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it."
And so we see, it is by what the man does, or what we do, whether or not we're building upon the rock or not. And those that hear, it says that those that hear the sayings of mine and do it, there goes that do again, are building upon the rock, and those who hear those sayings and don't do it, are not building upon the rock, will not be able to withstand the rains, will not be able to enter in the gate.
Another scripture I wanted to bring up about doing the will is actually in Matthew 6, it's the Lord's Prayer, and it says, and this is chapter 6, verse 9 through 13,
"After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen."
And in the middle, and actually towards the front of that, after we say, "Our Father which art in heaven," as we pray, "Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven," this is something that the Lord says that after we first address our Father, this is the first thing we're saying, we're saying we want His kingdom, we want to enter in the gate and we want to go into the kingdom of heaven and then after that, we say, "Thy will be done." Here we see the same pattern, don't we, to get into the kingdom of heaven, we do the will of the Father, and if we're to pray this and we are to pray always, and that's much more than just a prayer that we're saying once, twice or three times a day, it's something we do with our actions, that prayer goes along with us. And I see we're told here, this follows what was said by Joseph and John, becoming one with the Father and the Son and the Holy Ghost, becoming one, and we're shown here how we can do it, in doing the will of the Father.
I would like actually read a couple more scriptures, going to the next chapter, chapter 7, the beginning of the first paragraph there, towards the beginning, it says,
"Behold, ye have heard the things which I have taught before I ascended to my Father; therefore, whoso remembereth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, him will I raise up at the last day."
We're hearing again, now we're hearing the same things we already heard before, we heard hear, now remember, so hear the sayings, now we want to remember these sayings of the Lord, which are right here in 3rd Nephi, chapter 5 and 6 and 7 and so on, and then to do them. And He says, we do them and then, him who does this will be raised up at the last day, they will be able to enter in at the straight gate and go into the kingdom of heaven. This is showing us, through this we see that to do the will of the Father, we remember his sayings, not only do we remember them, but we do them, and that's how do the will of the Father.
I had one last scripture I had was at the end here of chapter 7, or pretty close to the end, it says, and this is when the prophet Isaiah, his prophecy is being fulfilled, it says,
"Thy watchmen shall lift up the voice; with the voice together shall they sing: for they shall see eye to eye, when the Lord shall bring again Zion. Break forth into joy, sing together, ye waste places of Jerusalem: for the Lord hath comforted his people, he hath redeemed Jerusalem. The Lord hath made bare his holy arm in the eyes of all the nations: and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of God."
And there we have it, to do the will of the Father, we learn how to see eye to eye with each other as well, all those who are doing that, the will, they'll be able to see eye to eye. Their foundation will be built on the same rock and though the idiosyncrasies may be a little different here and there, they are still founded on the same rock. Everyone does have their own talents, some can build better and some can write really well and some speak better, some hear better, and everyone has their strengths, but if we're all together, founded on that same foundation, we can see eye to eye.
So, anyway, that's what I have.
Announcements:
Chris: So there's a web site, a new web site that we have been working on and it's up and running and ready to go and look at and share. It is, the actual domain is foym.org, which is the acronym for Family of Yeshua Messiah. And there's a blog on there and it has some basic beliefs and things that are on there that we can share with people.
Joseph: Excellent, and when we post a transcript of this conference, we will make sure it is written there and in fact, we will post it on the forum and all the group's pages and everything anyways. So that is great. So, anyone who would like to learn a little bit more or have people who have questions, they can be directed to that site.
Porcupines:
Ted: I wasn't planning on speaking, but I was thinking about something since we are on the topic of unity and uniting and gathering together. There was a story I heard several years ago, and it was interesting at the time, and still is, and so I did a little research and found out a little more about it.
The story was about porcupines, and it was just a little, like a kids' story, it said, I can't remember, it was just called the story of the porcupines, anyhow, and the story goes these porcupines, porcupines are solitary creatures for the most part, they crawl around, up trees, eating leaves, doing stuff like that, and they've got spikes all over them and we all know what happens when you touch a porcupine, you get a nasty awakening. Their spikes are so strong, they can poke through car tires, if you drive over them or too close to them, they will give you a flat tire, that's how sharp and powerful their prickly things are, quills! Anyway, the story goes these porcupines gather up in the winter time and they come into their dens, and that's what porcupines do, they have to because to keep warm, because porcupines do not hibernate, they stay awake all winter, which is very strange for that kind of an animal, and they live up, like here, where we live, where it gets to -40 in the winter pretty easy, and winter lasts a long time too. Anyway, so they gather up in the winter.
Now there can be upwards of hundreds of porcupines gathering together in a group, in sets of rocks, caves, and what have you. Who here knows how they keep from pricking each other when they gather up? That's a trick question, they don't! Porcupines do prick each other when they gather up, and they deal with it. They don't get angry at each other, they don't one of them storm off because it got pricked by another one or it accidentally pricked it's buddy. They deal with it. They learn to get along with each other, no matter the other one's faults, no matter how many times they do something stupid, because it's necessary for their way of life and it's necessary if they want to survive the winter, honestly.
The unity is key, the pricking each other comes along with it, whether you like it or not. Zion may be a very happy place, it may be a lot of people gathered together and everyone very open minded and respectful to each other, it doesn't mean every now and again, there's not going to be an incident, where somebody does something stupid, where somebody does something on purpose, that hurts or annoys or pricks somebody else, you just have to deal with it, cause it's worth it.
Anyway, I thought that was quite the interesting thing, that porcupines, or people, will gather up into groups, no matter what problems they'll cause for each other, it's worth it in then end and sometimes, and if you want to do things right, it's the only way to do it.
Anyway, that was the moral of the story, it's just a short thing, but I thought it kind of went along with our theme of unity. Amen.
The Watch:
Kevin: Good evening, my brothers and sisters. I want to start by sharing with you the parable of the watch. So, we're all familiar with watches, we probably all have one. This is a very special watch that was created within the last 10 years or so, and it was made by a company in Switzerland called Vacheron Constantin and this company is the oldest watch company in the world. They wanted to do something very special for their 260th anniversary, they've been around for a very, very long time and continuously making watches all that period of time. So they decided to come up with a watch, they approached an individual about purchasing it before they ever went to the expense to make it, and he said, yes, I'll buy the watch, but it has to have a minimum of 36 complications, and a complication in a watch is anything other than the hours, the minutes, and the seconds. So if you had a watch that had a date on it, it gives you the day of the week and it gives you the day of the month, those are complications, that is actually 2 different complications, one is the day, one is the date, and those are pretty common to see today.
There's a lot of companies out there on the market that make some pretty amazing watches, companies like Casio and Seiko, and they'll make watches that have many, many complications on it. One of the big things that sets companies like this apart from the watch that we're talking about, from Vacheron Constantin, it that they are quartz watches, and they're referred to as quartz watches because they have a little teeny, tiny quartz crystal inside of them that's used as the timing element, and there's a great deal of work that goes into the design of those watches, but they wanted to do one out of a mechanical watch, and that's the 2 basic types of watches that we have on the market today. Quartz watches have been around for probably about 50 years now, they've been making them for about 50 years. They're primarily printed circuitry inside, if they're a digital watch, they don't have any moving parts to them at all, they're strictly a watch that's designed to be accurate, and there are some good looking ones and some very good looking ones out there.
This particular watch though, has all of the gears and the wheels and the springs that have been made in a very traditional fashion, and Vacheron Constantin has been making these watches for 260 years now just like that, they don't make any of the battery operated quartz watches, they only make mechanical watches, and so this particular one that they decided to do was a pocket watch and it has what is called 57 complications in it, meaning besides the hours and the minutes and the seconds, it gives you 57 different things that it will tell you, and it's the most complicated watch that has ever been made. It has 2826 parts. Now this is all inside of a pocket watch case that's about this big around. So that's that an awful lot, it's a miniature machine is what it is, and weighs pretty heavy, it weighs 957 grams, that's about 2 pounds. It has on the dials, and it has 2 dials, one on the front and one on the back of the watch as well, it has 31 different hands that give different information. So among the things that it will tell you, it has a display on there for 24 different cities around the world which account for the 24 different time zones. So if you were watching from Africa tonight, some of us are in North America, in Canada or the United States, and we're in different time zones, well this will tell you what time it is in any time zone anywhere in the world. On one of the dials, on the dial on the back, it has a map which is the constellation of the night sky from the person that they made this for, from where he lives at, which I believe is Israel.
It gives the day and the date of course, but it also gives the year, and it gives the year in what's referred to as mean time, mean meaning average, and so if I live in the mountain time zone in Utah, and if I had a person that was standing on the western edge of the mountain time zone and another person standing on the eastern edge of the mountain time zone, they're both going to see the sun set at the same time, but it will be darker than one sees it than it will with the other because of the curvature of the earth, so it takes into account, it averages all of these time zones, average the time within the earth. It has a chronograph in it, which is basically a stop watch, it gives you split second timing and it has 242 jewels, we've all heard about watches with jewels in them, and what they jewels are, are little manmade rubies, and those little rubies are designed to make the watch more accurate, even on very expensive watches today, the average very expensive watch, it may have 25 jewels in it; this particular watch has 242 jewels. Again, they're designed to create accuracy in the watch.
It's so precise that it only requires one correction every 1027 years. If you were to wind the watch everyday, and taking care of it, it only needs to make one correction, because, I'm sure most of you have experienced when you have a wrist watch and you're trying to go from a month that has 30 days in it to 31 days, there's a way that you can pull the crown out on the watch and set that. So this, it even takes into account leap years, where they add another day into the month of February once every 4 years, I have a nephew that was born on leap year day on the 29th of February. It also gives the time of sunrise and sunset at the owner's location where he is at. It will tell him everyday of the year for the next 1027 years, what time the sun will rise and what time the sun will set. It also gives sidereal time, we talked a second ago about the guy on the eastern side of the time zone and the person on the western side of the time zone, it actually gives the time, the actual time of the sun in whatever location that person happens to be in. It has a Hebrew calendar in it as well as the regular Gregorian calendar which the rest of the world uses these day, but it also has the Hebrew calendar which follows Jewish tradition.
It gives the seasons of the year. It tells you when the equinoxes and the solstices are. It has an alarm built into it with different musical tones which it will strike when you, you know, for whatever you have it set for, whenever the owner has it set for, and it actually has a little tiny, tiny hammer inside the mechanical works of the watch that strikes a gong and there are different tones which indicate whether it's on the hour, whether it's on the quarter hour, and whether it's on the minute, when it is chiming this out.
Amazing technology! It took years for them to design it first and then it took 3 master watch makers working full time on this project, and also working on their days off and working on, unfortunately, the Sabbath, and working during their holiday time, it took them 3 years to complete the watch, 3 guys working full time.
So you're probably asking yourself about this time, what does this have to do with the gospel. It's a watch. It has one drawback, one drawback, and it requires a person to wind it manually for any of these amazing things to work, there has to be someone there each day to wind the watch.
So, it's similar in this sense to the gospel, the Lord requires us to wind the watch, in other words, to do the work, for the whole plan to work for us, His plan to work for us. It's something which requires effort on our part, much more than winding a watch simply, and it requires a great deal of it and it requires it constantly. We have talked about gathering this evening, I would like to talk and share a little bit about missionary work and what the Lord does expect of us in that regard.
So, that having been said, when the Saviour says to us in the scriptures, if you'd love Me, keep My commandments, He's clueing us in to a reality, not just making a suggestion. If we do love the Lord, we need to demonstrate that, He needs to be able to see it, He needs to know that we are doing what He's asked us to do, following his commandments.
One of these commandments is to love each other, and we have to love each other as much as we love ourselves. If we enjoy keeping ourselves fed with good food, if we enjoy being warm and being comfortable, warm in the winter time, cool in the summer time, and if we enjoy those things, we have to do that for each other whenever the need arises for somebody that doesn't have food, or they don't have clothing.
There's a really, I think, a wonderful feeling that comes from helping someone else. Sometimes it may be food, it may be clothing, sometimes it's to give comfort to a person, they may be having a difficult time in their life, they may be mourning, you know, the death of a loved one or family member. Sharing the gospel, which is what we're all gathered here to do tonight, it is one of the those things that we can share with them, and an essential component of our missionary work is to cleanse ourselves first.
There's, I believe, a spiritual law that says that we cannot lift anyone else any higher than we are spiritually ourselves. If we want to help to lift people to spiritual heights, we need to be on track to be doing that ourselves, and as we share with other people and we love and we show love to them, we show care for them, we're winding the watch, we're doing what is necessary, that helps to, you know, you've all heard the expression, a rising tide, ocean tide, lifts all boats, and it's true, we need to do the same thing for ourselves.
Arguably, one of the, I think one of the greatest Book of Mormon missionaries is Ammon. Ammon was, of course, one of the sons of King Mosiah, and he, along with his brothers and Alma the Younger, went about, they were not good guys, they were knuckleheads. They were doing everything that was in their power to destroy the church that the Lord had created among the people in the ancient North American continent, and he finally repented, and his brothers as well, and Alma repented, and this happened after they... he became converted after their life-changing experience and an angel had appeared to them. It is found on page 297 in the Book of Alma in the Book of Mormon. And he, recounting this event, he made this statement, he says,
"Yea, he that repenteth and exercises faith, and bringeth forth good works, and prayeth continually without ceasing: unto such it is given to know the mysteries of God; yea, unto such it should be given to reveal things which never have been revealed; yea, and it should be given unto such, to bring thousands of souls to repentance, even as it hath been given unto us to bring these our brethren to repentance."
And for those who may not be familiar with this scripture, they converted, or were the instruments in the Lord's hands in converting thousands of people. It is possible that these things can take place.
That sounds pretty good to me. I think it's a formula that works, it's given to all people, and who will follow the plan, that we can all do these same things that they did, but there are stipulations, there are requirements in order to be able to do this. We've heard about having communion with the Lord, and that's a great place to start.
I'll also say, however, that taking the path isn't always a bed of roses when you're trying to share principles of truth with other people. It's not always a bed of roses, and if we continue to read in the next verse which I'm going to share with you, it tells us the travails, these guys were noble, they were valiant, but they went through some very difficult times themselves, and this particular scripture, Ammon says,
"Now do you remember, my brethren, that we said unto our brethren in the land of Zarahemla,"
this is before they had actually left on their missions,
"We go up to the land of Nephi, to preach unto our brethren, the Lamanites, and they laughed us to scorn?"
So people that belonged to the church that should have been supporting them in their efforts, were laughing, telling them, you know, you're foolish for doing this.
"They said unto us, Do ye suppose that ye can bring the Lamanites to the knowledge of the truth? Do ye suppose that ye can convince the Lamanites of the incorrectness of the traditions of their fathers, as stiffnecked a people as they are; whose hearts delighteth in the shedding of blood; whose days have been spent in the grossest iniquity; whose ways have been the ways of a transgressor, from the beginning? Now my brethren, ye remember that this was their language."
And many of those things were true about the Lamanites, but they had a different way to view it, they viewed these individuals as their brothers, that they needed to hear truth and that if they were to go and to share them, they knew that the Lord would watch over them and they knew that they would be protected.
And these individuals that were in Zarahemla that were their brethren, that were there before they left on their missions, they replied to Ammon, they said,
"Let us take up arms against them, that we destroy them and their iniquity out of the land, lest they overrun us and destroy us."
This is not how the Lord works, it's not His doctrine. His doctrine is one of love, it's one of peace, not of contention and we've heard that tonight, that contention is very, very bad, it is of the devil. And he continues,
"But behold, my beloved brethren, we came into the wilderness not with the intent to destroy our brethren, but with the intent that perhaps we might save some few of their souls. Now when our hearts were depressed, and we were about to turn back, behold, the Lord comforted us, and said, Go amongst they brethren, the Lamanites, and bear with patience thine afflictions, and I will give unto the success."
Well there is a promise from the Lord to these guys, amazing promise, that gave them hope, that gave them strength to continue on.
Now I want to read a scripture next, but I have a certain amount of trepidation, because I know that there's women and there's some children that are listening to this, and I don't want to cause concern for them or to wound any little hearts and so if you want to mute it for about the next 30 seconds or so, this would be a good time to do it, so I'll give you a second or two to do that. Alright, I'm going to go on now, so hopefully you have that muted.
Ammon continues,
"And now behold, we have come, and been forth amongst them; and we have been patient in our sufferings, and we have suffered every privation;"
so bad things happened to these guys,
"Yea, we have travelled from house to house, relying upon the mercies of the world; not upon the mercies of the world alone, but upon the mercies of God; and we have entered into their houses and taught them, and we have taught them in their streets; yea, and we have taught them upon their hills; and we have also entered into their temples and their synagogues and taught them; and we have been cast out, and mocked, and spit upon, and smote upon our cheeks; and we have been stoned, and taken and bound with strong cords, and cast into prison; and through the power and wisdom of God, we have been delivered again; and we have suffered all manner of afflictions and all this, that perhaps we might be the means of saving some soul; (plural) and we supposed that our joy would be full, if perhaps we could be the means of saving some."
That's an amazing thing to me, that they are willing to do this, even for just a single individual or just a very few, small group of people, that they are willing to devote themselves, and they devoted 15 years to this mission among the people. Tremendous sacrifices were made on their behalf.
Well, we have to ask ourselves, does the Lord expect anything different today. The message is the same, the gospel is the same. People change, but people's needs don't change and human nature doesn't change. It is the same plan that has been around since the days of Adam and Eve, nothing different. In the 121st and the 122nd section of the D&C, it records the prophet Joseph Smith, he is pleading with the Lord for relief from his persecutors, he went through a tremendous amount himself, and asking the Lord for help in the 121st section. The Lord responds to his pleas and he says,
"My son, peace be unto thy soul; thine adversity and thine afflictions shall be but a small moment; And then, if thou endure it well, God shall exalt thee on high; thou shalt triumph over all thy foes. Thy friends do stand by thee, and they shall hail thee again with warm hearts and friendly hands. Thou art not yet as Job; thy friends do not contend against thee, neither charge thee with transgression, as they did Job."
And then in the 122nd section, the Lord says,
"Know thou, my son, that all these things shall give thee experience, and shall be for thy good. The Son of Man,"
referring to Yeshua,
"hath descended below them all. Art thou greater than he? Therefore, hold on thy way, and the priesthood shall remain with thee; for their bounds are set, they cannot pass. Thy days are known, and thy years shall not be numbered less; therefore, fear not what man can do, for God shall be with you forever and ever."
That had to be very comforting. He was in Liberty Jail when he was making these pleadings and had been there for many weeks with a few of his brethren, they didn't have a fire in there, they gave them a few blankets, winter time in Missouri with snow on the ground can be quite cold, so they went through a lot of things as well.
Today, we're getting pretty close to the end from the timeline standpoint of the earth, and there's not a whole lot of time. It's my hope that we might resolve to do better within ourselves, to repent of those things which we need to repent of, and to demonstrate the love and the compassion for each other that our Heaven Father sent us to this earth to show. Remember to follow the Lord Yeshua and remember to wind the watch, and I share these things with you in the name of the Saviour, the Lord Yeshua Messiah. Amen.
Conclusion:
Joseph: Well, it has been a very nice meeting today and our hope and prayer is that everyone will take the words of the Lord to heart and make the necessary changes so that we can live together in peace and harmony and create a Zion here upon the earth where the Lord will come and bless us with His presence. That is the whole point and purpose. So, thank you everyone for coming and we will try hard to get a transcript of this put up on the forum. Everybody is welcome to go to the forum and check things out, and we will see you there. In 3 more months, in December, we will have our winter conference, and we will see what the Lord says then. So, have a great evening everybody, thank you for joining us.
Closing Prayer: Joseph
Father in Heaven, we thank thee so very much that we could meet together today, on Zoom. We are so grateful that we can meet with everybody, all across the earth. We are so happy to have this technology where we can communicate with each other and strengthen each other and help each other as we move toward Thy Son, and we do pray Thy blessing that we may understand Thy Son, Jesus Christ, and His atoning sacrifice for us, for His love for us, and that we may show that love to each other, that we may be one, not only with Thee, Father, but also with each other, and so that Thy Son may come again to His people. We do thank Thee for these things, in the name of Thy Son, Yeshua the Messiah. Amen.
